Open Door is starting a program to work with boyfriends, husbands, and dads. You can come in with your partner, and meet with a guy who will listen to you and be there for you. This post is written by one of our guy volunteers, Chris.
As you are reading this, there is a good chance that I am either on my way to a prenatal doctor's visit, on a late night craving run, or massaging the back of an expectant mother. You see, my wife is 32 weeks along with our first child, a girl we have named Maggie.
I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't a little nervous. I struggle to remember to feed the dog; I prefer to sleep in on my days off; and I can't braid hair. But so far the excitement and joy far outweighs the apprehension.
We've begun taking childcare classes at the hospital; we have regular check ups with our doctor, and we have an incredible support network among our family, friends, and our church home.
I am deeply aware of how blessed we are. Not every first time parent shares the same resources that we have been given. Not every first time father is excited about the prospect of raising a child; not every first time mother has a spouse who is present or attends classes.
That is why Open Door PCC is so vital to our community. Here at Open Door, mother's can discover support, father's can find answers, and families have a place to become more whole.
Please feel free to come and check us out! We'd love to visit with you!
