Just For Dads

Open Door is starting a program to work with boyfriends, husbands, and dads. You can come in with your partner, and meet with a guy who will listen to you and be there for you. This post is written by one of our guy volunteers, Chris.

As you are reading this, there is a good chance that I am either on my way to a prenatal doctor's visit, on a late night craving run, or massaging the back of an expectant mother. You see, my wife is 32 weeks along with our first child, a girl we have named Maggie.

I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't a little nervous. I struggle to remember to feed the dog; I prefer to sleep in on my days off; and I can't braid hair. But so far the excitement and joy far outweighs the apprehension.

We've begun taking childcare classes at the hospital; we have regular check ups with our doctor, and we have an incredible support network among our family, friends, and our church home.

I am deeply aware of how blessed we are. Not every first time parent shares the same resources that we have been given. Not every first time father is excited about the prospect of raising a child; not every first time mother has a spouse who is present or attends classes.

That is why Open Door PCC is so vital to our community. Here at Open Door, mother's can discover support, father's can find answers, and families have a place to become more whole.

Please feel free to come and check us out! We'd love to visit with you!

Then on October 14, we have our Fall Fundraising Banquet at the Grand Prairie Hotel & Convention Center in Hutchinson. Moving!!

WOW! We have an awesome God! That's all we can say! Last summer, we looked at a different building that we thought would work well for Open Door, but we didn't have the money to buy it, and didn't want to go into debt. So we prayed about it. We were ready to start a building campaign, when some friends came to the Center and gave us a large donation to go towards the building. The Board decided to make an offer of that amount--even thought it was $30,000 less than the listing price. The sellers accepted the offer!! So we will be looking at moving in the next month or so to 315 W. 1st! We are excited!! And we praise God!

Christmas Memories

What kind of memories does Christmas bring you? Spending time with family and friends, sharing gifts, and enjoying special food? Or maybe, your memories are painful--losing a loved one, broken relationships, or going hungry. Whatever your memories, the most important thing about Christmas is the gift God gave us--his son, Jesus. God used a young girl with an unplanned pregnancy, a poor family, and a helpless baby to bring about His plan--salvation for the world. Jesus came to bring HOPE for everyone, no matter what you are facing in life. Please know that we are here to help you through whatever situation you find yourself in. Give us a call (620-728-2229), drop an email (opendoorpcc@gmail.com), or stop by (24 W. 4th, Hutchinson, KS). Praying you will have a blessed Christmas!!
